2011 Press Release

Ready for Immediate Release

Omaha - On Friday, October 14, 2011 UNO students and Omaha community members will have a chance to "walk in someone else's shoes for a night" at the annual Fashion Victim Show. The event will be help on the University of Nebraska at Omaha's campus in the Milo Bail Student Center Ballroom. Doors will open at 6pm and the event will begin at 7pm.

Fashion Victim is an injury prevention program combined with a fashion show as a fundraiser. All donations are distributed locally on prevention efforts and to provide victims with services. The show includes a diverse panel of speakers who give different perspectives on how alcoholic abuse can impact a person. The show also features the fashion show which includes several local models, designers and their latest fashions including men walking in red high heels.

There are 75,000 deaths caused by alcohol in the United States every year. In collaboration with founder, Amy Wieczorek, and the UNO Women's Resource Center, the UNO Panhellenic Council has chosen to host the fashion show in order to spread prevention and awareness of alcohol abuse, as well as to benefit local Omaha affected victims.

"This is an opportunity for people to come together to celebrate our strengths, bring awareness to weaknesses, and educate on how we can reverse the negative trends. The red high high has always been a symbol for the show representing the value of "walking in someone else's shoes" as well as the idea that although each pair of heels on stage are different we are united by color of passion (red) therefore uniting us. With effective yet entertaining education and awareness, together we can eliminate alcohol-related crimes." stated, Amy Wieczorek.

Each attendee is encouraged to wear a pair of red heels (shoes) to support victims and survivors. Tickets can be obtained by donating $5 or a gently used article of clothing at the door. All proceeds will be given to Open Door Mission's Lydia House to support the women affected by domestic abuse.

T-shirts and tickets can also be purchased in advance at our website, http://www.fashionvictimshow.com.
